Please check out Bikes Not Bombs, based in Boston, MA, as an organization that was founded on the belief that bicycles empower individuals and contribute to sustainable communities. That was back in the early eighties and their work continues today -- internationally and locally in Boston.

The reality is that many/most people who ride bikes have bigger concerns than having a google map to find a good route. That said, I support this movement you are working on but I also encourage you (pl) to consider encouraging greater access to bicycles and bicycle technology world-wide. Enter bike coops and bike recycling and the like!
