While it's great that my hometown is a test city, the city is completely out of touch with the cycling community here, and most of the routes are antiquated. Most of the bike paths take you out of your way, or onto busy bike laneless streets, etc. While they are beginning to update the Austin Bike Plan (first time in 10 years, or something like that), a lot of change would need to happen before we became a test city. That being said, we just got a walled off bike lane for a few blocks downtown and it's awesome.

Also, Dick... Everywhere is walking distance as long as you have the time ;)

The general rule I go by if i want to figure out bike time is walking time divided by 3. That usually comes up pretty well and most of the time you can bike where you can walk. If not then move the route till you find a good measure.

As you may know, it is possible to overlay a PDF or bitmap graphic over a Google Map using a custom tile layer. An example of that is on-line at www.michigantrails.org/map The tile layer was created using ArcGIS and MapCruncher.
