Pros: OSM is "open" - no for profit corporation will dictate when/why/where/how the data is used. Application developers have complete freedom, and no licensing restrictions to use the data. 'may the best app developer win' Cons: limited bicycle app development to date, but 'Ride the City' is a great example of what's possible.
